6 Key Factors for Succesful Pool Construction, Bundaberg

6 Key factors to Succesful Pool Construction.

Building a pool is a large investment, so you must consider 6 key factors to ensure you maximise your investment while enhancing the appeal and usability of the area surrounding your new pool.

1/   When you are serious about including a Pool in your entertaining area to your home you should seek professional advise to produce the best design based on your needs and expectations all in keeping with the style and feel of your home. It’s not only to design the pool, but to encompass the complete design with pool and landscaping design as without the complete design your project will often  fail to deliver the enjoyment, entertainment and satisfaction you desire. The company you choose to design and Build your pool must be a good listener, and have a wide range of experience to collate your ideas then provide solutions enriched by their experience. Look at the complete solution and how the design will flow through from the home and enhance your investment. Rarely is the cheapest design the best solution, so look past the initial investment to the  long term effects on the useability and sale-ability etc …

2/  Identify how you will use the pool & who will use the pool… is it for entertainment, fitness & health, family enjoyment, learning to swim, or just cooling off on hot summer days. Every style requires different consideration in the design. Think carefully and remember not to focus on how the pool is used right now for say “young children” as they will grow up and often shallow areas can be a waste of space as their needs change… for instance a seat 500mm deep is a better option than a large wading area to learn confidence in water etc..

3/  Locate the pool fencing so as not to distract from the usability of the pool… consider visual appeal by using Glass, use dark colours for less visual intrusion, and locate the fence so as not to divide the area into unusable areas… consider where you need the space and place the fence accordingly.

4/  when you have settled on a design for the entire project have it drawn up to scale to be certain the Design will work… better to do this now than strike problems when you start constructions.

5/  Running costs for you pool must be included in the design…choose new Variable flow pumps to cut your running costs.. eg.. Zodiac E pumps and remember OFF peak power, Pool blanket to prevent chemical & water evaporation, while also including storm water diverter to direct water to your pool.

6/  consider options to heat your pool with either Solar Pool heating or a Heat pump. Solar heating often extends your swimming season by 2-4 months and heat pumps allow year round swimming. When you enjoy swimming and entertaining around the pool, heating is well worth the investment.

Composite timber decking to courtyard in Bundaberg

Transforming this simple grassed backyard into a stunning and functional entertaining areas required a vision of the clients needs for the use of this area. This is the look af the area before the Lifestyle Solutions Landscaping team started construction.

Where composite decking is to be placed a concrete base is required, then exposed agg laid either side of the decking. Then view the landscaping as its complete to see what a complete transition this had made to the entertaining area. Also very functional in wet weather as its no longer a boggy mess.

See how the composite decking is fixed with the cleva clips that fix between the boards not from on top.. so there is no nails to putty up..

Overall very impressive finish to the project… check out the final video.

Thanks to all the Team at Lifestyle Solutions in Bundaberg for an awesome job.

Red spider Mites in Azaleas and Roses, Bundaberg landscaping

Azaleas and roses are susceptible to Red spider mite or Double spotted Mites when the weather is hot and Dry. It’s May and quite cool in Bundaberg and yet we still see plenty of the pests about. Look for dusty dirty look to the top of the leaves and on the under side you will see under a magnifying glass hundred of tiny spider looking insects running about. You will also notice thousands of brown dots which are the eggs then grow rapidly to adults in about a week.

On a foggy morning & in extreme situations you will see masses of tiny webs on your Roses and azaleas and even Tomatoes which is another tell tale sign they are about and will suck the living daylights out of your plants, starving them and even killing plants in extreme situations.

Control of Red spider or Double spotted mite… natural control.

They really dont like water so overhead watering can significantly reduce the numbers bearing in mind their life cycle this will need to be repeated over at least a week to cover the life cycle, so even 20-25mm of rain will achieve the same result. Yates produce a product called “Natrasoap” which suffocates the mites , they dry out and fall of with a repeat every 5-7 days also required.

Be careful not to kill the old Lady bird beetle as they are a natural predator to the pesky little mites. There are other natural predators that are used commercially which are not available for residential use.

Chemical Control..

Kelthane is often use but should not be over used to avoid a build up in resistance..Mites are related to spiders as they have four pairs of legs. Tiny pinkish-red mites cluster on the underside of leaves often producing fine webbing in extreme situations. by Peter Moller

How to kill leeches in landscaping, Bundaberg

The weather has been so wet for so long leeches are bound to be around in the garden, especially in soaks and overly wet areas. You only need to rub up against a wet bush while you are pruning and they will latch on.

Anyone emptied the spa when not in use this is prefect conditions for leeches to thrive. The solution is salty water.. yes its that simple !  Recently I faced this issue and decided to check out what to do and found this worked for me.

leeches in your garden

1/  you can actually sprinkle salt directly on them and they will generally let go or

2/  put together a salty solution and pour over the little sucka…

3/ still not letting go, strike a match and touch them with the hot tip and hey presto its all gone..

Salt water Swimming Pools pro’s and cons

Choose the right Pool Sanatiser for your Swimming pool

Lets clear up one thing right from the start… Salt water pool does actually create its own chlorine to sanatise your pool.. The advantage for the pool owner is the pool doesn’t actually required added chlorine (in most situations), and less irritation for people who are sensitive to the added chemicals. Salt water tends to be much softer than chlorinated water, so it’s much more pleasurable to swim in, and is much less harsh on your skin. In addition, a salt water pool usually has a much lower concentration of chlorine than a chlorinated pool.

Running costs are reduced as bagged salt currently is more economical than liquid chlorine that is injected into your pool. Just to be clear though, Salt water pools do in fact use chlorine to sanitize and the water. So if you are not adding chlorine tablets or shock, how does that work?

It works because of the chemical composition of salt, which is made up of chlorine and sodium. Within the salt water system is a unit called a salt-chlorine generator, which uses electrolysis to generate chlorine by separating the sodium and chlorine molecules in the salt you add to the pool. As the generator unit separates out the chlorine, it’s returned to the pool, where it keeps the water clean and sanitary.

A well-maintained salt pool is an absolute delight to swim in, with softer, more comfortable water that doesn’t irritate. It doesn’t taste salty, either, as you might think, because it has such a low concentration of salt that it’s officially considered to be fresh water!  In the ocean, the salt concentration is between 20,000 to 35,000 parts per million, whereas in a salt water pool, it’s just 2,600 to 3,200.

Finally, don’t be fooled into thinking that a salt water pool maintains itself. It doesn’t. You still need to check PH levels and carry out other maintenance tasks. However, you’ll benefit from lower maintenance costs and a more enjoyable swimming experience, which definitely makes it worthwhile.

ORP Chlorine & acid injection controllers actually vary the input of both chlorine and acid into the pool according to the bather load and weather conditions. The control unit continually tests the water at pre determined times during operation to modulate the inputs to reflect the pool use. Where as a Salt water pool chlorine production is controlled simply by manual control of the timer to estimate the time required to accomodate the seasonal changes & bather load. Its quite simple really but worth considering when you are building a new pool.
